| INTACH to set up Children’s Creative Arts Centre | | J&K children highly talented: Governor | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 27- The Governor, N. N. Vohra, has eulogized the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) for taking meaningful initiatives to create awareness about preserving the glorious heritage of the State and bringing out and channelizing the creative talent of the youth. The Governor was interacting with a group of 50 children, who called on him at Raj Bhavan, here this evening. The children in the age group of 14-18 years are participating in Children’s World, the eight-day INTACH Workshop on Creativity Education and Arts, which commenced here yesterday. They have been selected from various schools of Kashmir Division by the Directorate of School Education, Kashmir, through an elaborate selection process. The event has been organized by the INTACH (J&K Chapter) in collaboration with the University of Kashmir and the Directorate of School Education, Kashmir. The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Mumbai, is supporting this Workshop. The Governor said that the children of Jammu and Kashmir are highly talented and that, given an opportunity, proper guidance and enabling environment, they can make a mark in various spheres. Referring to the workshop, the Governor said that the creative works of the children could generate resources for further deepening such effort. The Governor offered to buy some of such creations for display in the Raj Bhavan. He said that such initiatives should be made a permanent feature so that more and more children could benefit from this movement. He also referred to the proposal of the INTACH to set up Children’s Creative Arts Centre in Kashmir and said that this could be set up by putting in place a pre-fabricated hall, in complete harmony with the surroundings, with nicely laid out greenery and paths, having adequate logistics. The Governor also enquired from the children the projects and the medium of fine arts they have chosen for the workshop. He presented gifts to the children and wished them a bright future. The Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Riyaz Punjabi, Principal Secretary to the Governor, B. B. Vyas, Director School Education, Kashmir, Shagufta Parveen, Convener, INTACH, J&K Chapter, M. Saleem Beg and resource persons of the workshop were also present on the occasion. Earlier, Beg briefed the Governor that INTACH in collaboration with Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Mumbai, has embarked on a program to support and guide school children with aptitude and skills in creative arts and education. He said that the first such Workshop under INTACH’s initiative was started here yesterday in which renowned personalities like Neelma Sheikh, Ram Rehman, Kriti. V. Sharma, Anis Azmi and Sahjo Singh for the disciplines of painting, photography, theatre and creative writing areas, respectively, are the resource persons, while noted theatre and film personality, M. K. Raina, is coordinating the Workshop. He also spoke about the activities of the INTACH (J&K Chapter).
