| 34 aim at becoming umpires from J&K | | BCCI’s 4-day orientation course for umpires begins | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 27: Two former first class cricketers among 34 people from Jammu and Kashmir were exposed to basic things required for an umpire on the opening day of the four-day Level-I Umpires’ Course by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) being organised in association with Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, here today. Manager Game Development of BCCI, Stanley Saldanha, top umpires, S K Bansal and Jasbir Singh form the three-member team deputed by the BCCI to train the men from J&K. Prominent among those attending the course are former Ranji cricketers, Rajesh Gill and Manzoor Dar as also Rajesh Dhar, Physical Education Lecturer with Department of Youth Services and Sports. “On the opening day, we were taught the first part of the laws from 1 to 42 of the umpires. Top men from BCCI in the field of umpiring also provided important tips regarding rolling, mowing and inspection of the pitch before and after the play,” one of the trainee, Rajesh Dhar told SAN. “During the first three days of the course, theory part will be covered. It will be followed by the examination on the fourth and final day through BCCI,” informed a spokesman of JKCA. After qualifying the ongoing level-I, one becomes eligible for officiating the state level tournament. “Those, who clear the level-I automatically become eligible for the level-II course of the BCCI,” the spokesman maintained. In all, 15 people with cricketing back ground from Jammu are attending the course. Prominent among those present on the inaugural session of the course were JKCA treasurer, Ehsan Mirza and joint secretary Kashmir wing of JKCA, Ghulam Mohammad. THE TRAINEES: JAMMU: Rajesh Gill, Sudhir Singh, Sham Singh Langeh, Parminder Singh, Deepak Gupta, Harbinder Singh, Amit Kumar Gupta, Rajesh Dhar, Saleem Ur Rehman, Javed Iqbal, Mohd Fayaz, Dheeraj Sharma, Sushil Dogra, Pawan Deep Singh and Mohan Lal.
