| Crops on 1.18 lakh kanals of land destroyed last year | | Charak resents delay in disbursement of relief to Bishnah hail storm victims | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 29- Former Minister and senior Congress leader Gulchain Singh Charak has expressed his resentment against the attitude of concerned authorities in providing relief to the residents of Bishnah who have heavily suffered due to last year’s hailstorm. Talking to media persons here today, Charak while welcoming the announcement of the Chief Minister sanctioning an immediate relief of Rs. five crores in favour of the people affected due to the devastating wind-storm on July 26 in Handwara area of Kashmir, said that the people of Bishnah tehsil of Jammu district who paddy crops were destroyed in hailstorm last year have not been paid the compensation from the government so far. He said the losses assessed by the government authorities runs into 33 crore of rupees. Crops on 1.18 lakh kanals of land in 59 villages affecting more than 10,000 people were damaged in the hailstorm. ‘But it is surprising that after this elaborate exercise the case pertaining to the relief to the farmers, as per the assessment, is pending with the Department concerned and nothing has been done even after more than 10 months of the calamity’, he said and adding, the administrative officers in this connection misguided the state government and demanded enquiry. Saying that Bishnah constituency is most neglected constituency of Jammu and added that the area was facing acute power crisis and sans the basic amenities. He alleged that AEE, JE and other officials of Power department continue to remain posted in a particular area for the last more than 18 years and are simply minting money. He demanded immediate suspension of AEE, JE and foreman of Bishnah. He appealed to the Chief Minister to look into the matter personally and settle the issue immediately by sanctioning the amount of relief to the farmers as per the assessment. He also urged upon the authorities to desist from adopting the negative attitude towards these deserving farmers, who are under conditions of utter distress due to the financial loss suffered by them and are in no position to buy the seeds for further cultivations as they are at the stage of starvation.
