| Shastri appeals PM to release pending DA of employees | | |

Jammu, July 29: President, National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) Subash Shastri has appealed the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh release the pending installment of D.A due from July 1st this year @ 6% in favour of the employees of both central government and state governments in view of increasing inflation and price hike of the essential commodities.
In a memorandum sent to PM, Shastri while giving facts and figures said that the price index which was 5.69% in December 31st 2008 now has increased to 5.8% in June 30th 2009. He said the rate of compensation was revised over six month one in a January and in July every year based on average of the consumer price index for previous months. This would be the 2nd biannual increase since the recommendation of the 6th pay commission which was accepted by the central govt. in 14th August 2008, he added.
Continuing its decline for rupee six successive months, Shastri said that the purchasing power of rupee fell by 40 paisa to 23.81 paisa in December 2008. The purchasing power of Re. has been further going down since April last year. He also urged Singh to declare Jammu and Srinagar as B-1 cities of state.
