| Jammu, July 29- The Jammu University employees who are on strike for the last two days demanding implementation of 6th pay commission recommendations have extended the strike for one more day. In a meantime the University has postponed examination to be conducted on 30 and 31st of this month The fresh dates for the exams shall be notified later on. The prolonged strike by the employees have further added to the problems of the admission seekers who have been thronging the University campus for the last two days to get admission forms. The pass-outs who thronged to Jammu University campus to buy admission forms for post graduate courses had to return disappointed due to the e two-day pen-down strike launched by non-teaching and non-gazetted employees of Jammu University. Earlier, the President of the Non-teaching and Non-gazetted Employees Union Surjeet Singh, said “If the government fails to take a decision immediately, we can also extend the strike. The government alone will be solely responsible for the sufferings of the students.” The employee also warned that they will not resume their work till the authorities don’t respond to their grievances. On of the employee said that they had a meeting with Vice Chancellor Varun Sahni who had assured them that lower grade employees too will get the benefit of sixth pay commission recommendations, but till now no response has been shown by the authorities Sahil Gupta, who had come from Udhampur, said: “We were informed that the admission forms will be made available from today but when I reached here the scene was altogether different. No official was available here.” Madhavi Gupta, another student, who had come from RS Pura said: “It was the responsibility of the authorities concerned to inform us about the cancellation of admission process in advance through the media.” Hundreds of other students from various parts of the state and the country were also left disappointed. Some of them had come to know about their results that were withheld by the university while others had come to get their migration certificates. Expressing resentment over the apathetic attitude of the authorities concerned, Arif who had come from Doda district, said: “The University has withheld my Bachelor’s degree results. I came here just to know the reason but the officials are not responding to my query properly. I am totally depressed as I do not know what to do now.” Sonali, a student from Jaipur, said: “I came here to get my migration certificate. I was not aware about the strike and I have already taken my train reservation for Jaipur tomorrow.” It may be mentioned that admission to most of the courses is being made on the basis of percentage scored by candidate in college, while admission to courses like MCA, MBA, LLB, Environmental Sciences etc is made on entrance basis. Meanwhile, application forms for admission in various off-site/ satellite campuses and PG Government Degree Colleges have been made available in the respective off-site/ satellite campuses and colleges respectively. It is to further mention that 50 percent of the seats in off-site/ satellite campuses have been kept reserved for the candidates who are pass outs of the respective district colleges. As per notification, students could take admission till August 10. With a late fee, the admission is allowed till August 13.
