7/30/2009 12:02:27 AM
Early Times Report
Srinagar: Amarnath Yatra was suspended for second consecutive day as fresh rains forced authorities to stop the movement of devotees along the tracks. However, in the afternoon devotees were allowed to proceed towards the cave from the Baltal route. Sources said that fresh rainfall was received along the Baltal and Pahalgam tracks on Wednesday morning making both the tracks slippery.
“As the tracks were slippery we decided to suspend the Yatra from both the tracks,” a senior official associated with the Yatra said. He said that later in the afternoon devotees were allowed to proceed towards the cave from Baltal. Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 502 pilgrims, including 92 women, five children and 77 Sadhus, left for Amarnath cave from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Wednesday morning. The devotees left in a convoy of 13 vehicles, including 10 State Road Transport Corporation buses, a private bus and two LMV’s.
