| Talibans extending their activities in newer areas | | |
Catch them young seems to be the new strategy the Talibans have adopted.The Talibans believe that the kids were prone to getting brainwashed and they have shown their vigour once they are incited to carrying out Jehad.This became evident when the Pakistan troops,engaged in a fierce fight against the Talibans in the Swat valley,freed 200 kids from the clutches of the Talibans.These kids,age between 6 and 13 years, had been abducted,in some cases lured,from various areas of the valley for training.As the security forces launched a massive search oerations they found these boys huddled in a camp in the Swat valley.They had been totally brainwashed and trained to act as suicide bombers.Some of the boys did not show any elation on being rescued by the security forces.After preliminary questioning several boys were sent to their parents but within days t hese parents informed the security forces that their chidlren were tough nuts to crack because they were so much brainwashed that they were threatening to kill them(parents).Those who were quite keen to carry out suicide attacks were sent to medical camp for treatment by psychiatrists so that they are fully rehabilitated.The activities of the Talibans seem to be an unending story despite the fact that the Pakistani forces have been able to sanitise a major portion of the Swat valley and its adjoining areas against the Talibans.These very Talibans have raised their head again in Afghanistan even after their bases had been smashed in the aerial strikes carried out by the US forces three years ago.Sensing that some of their activities had earned peoples' displeasure the Talibans,active in Afghanistan,have adopted a new code of conduct.Under this code the Talibans have pledged that suicide attacks would target high and important places.The code circulated amongst its activists provides that efforts should be made to avoid civilian killings whenever suicide attacks were carried out.The Talibans have spread their tentacles to Nigeria where in recent attacks more than 200 civilians were killed.The Talibans,working under the nomenclature of Boko Haram Islamaic group has made public its anger against western education.All these events prove that extremists in one garb or the other have started extending their influence to newer places and areas.These extremists keep on changing their designs.It is do's and dont's for women today and the next day are the rules framed for men.They are a law unto themselves and while trying to pose themselves as the most religious outfit when the genuine Islamic scholars have been charging them with unislamic activities.When Pakistan decided to impart training to the Kashmiri youths in camps across the LOC they were ,besides getting training in the handling of guns and explosives told that Islam was in danger in Kashmir.They were brainwashed when they were told that people in Kashmir were not allowed to offer five times prayers in the mosques.Others were told that several mnosques were destroyed by the Indian security forces in Kashmir.This is what several arrested militants had revealed during interrogation.Some of the foreign mercenaries,who were pushed into Kashmir for giving teeth to the struggle,told their interrogators that they were told that mosques had been locked and there was no religious freedom in Kashmir but whatever they saw in the valley was totally in contrast to what they had been told.They lost interest in Jehad and crossed back to Pakistan.Even the local youths lost interest when they found that they were simply killing their kith and kin.This realisation has been responsible for the gradual decline in the militancy related incidents.(eom)
