| Lowering standards of politicians in Indian politics | | | Khushwant. S. Ranial | 7/30/2009 9:43:13 PM |
| Democracy is an art of liberal and flexible set up, providing ample scope to express freely one’s feeling without any censor, or check. It extremely provides liberty to expanse one’s horizon of thoughts, likings, dislikings, favouritism or holding a prejudiced perception. The amount of felexibility and latitude gained through this ten letters word long has done more harm than serving true service to its potential by its user in the Indian political context atleast irrespect of affiliation to any walk of life. Politics is no exception where an undue advantage of this connotation have been sought and applied for fulfilling one’s own benefits at the cost of others dignity, respect, honour, grace, status or position in a social hierarchy. How unfairly its misuse has been carried out so far both in the parliament house or legislative assemblies have been too hard to count for but one thing is sure enough to believe and accept candidly that in the eyes of world over, ours incident behaviour has definitely brought slurs to the very fabric structure of our constitutional set up. Definitely mud slingings have lowered our image. The world mocks at us and ridicules our contemporary leadership of leaders possessive ingrained qualities. Not to speak of one, there are countless incidents which if recalled adds pain deeply to our existing woes and miseries. The latest happeining in which PDP senior most leader MH Beig targeted CM Omar Abdullah without credential evidences at hand, reflects nothing short of a character assassination of a leader. No doubt, democracy exhorts one to raise finger against other with proof but equally one must not forget that when one resorts to such a type of action, one must not loose sight of the direction of rest of three folded fingers of same hand pointing towards oneself to implore one’s own conscience to know where does one stand? Is one, oneself free of the cross-accusations or level of allegations likely to raise after one’s own personal comment, which at least, in particular case of MH Beig didn’t happen and his antics also encircled him as a womanizer and corrupt in having illicit relations with at least six more, women. Now, who will balance the inequilibrium scale of Beig. Some one has rightly remarked that politics is a field of scoundrels and they donot hold water enough to sail smoothly on their own bench strength. Their sole aim is to befool the public, mint money, gain dividends and make hayway while the sun shines. They are blessings in disguise to a few who have the habit by birth to lick dust of others to survive. For rest of others, they are just like the white elephant. Every somer elements and an educated individual seeks only one query from these very elite gentlemen, representing us at the highest level, for healthy governance of law and order, formulation of policy matters that was it a proper time to deliberate upon infamous 2006 sex scandal row lying in slumber, the dead files of whom has gained the dust beyond recognition. By raising such weightless issues, at this moment ours representatives have really lowered the grace of politics in the eyes of public on the account of the fact there are scores of important issues to be taken up for the public life betterment. But alas, this is undone. Who bothers about common man’s suffering and why too dwell upon because there is dearth of knowledge among the elected representatives. Moreover, healthy issues does not serve their personal scares and purposes. If public suffers, it matter least to their concern. They are more inclined to their own pecuniary gains. Settlement or hike in salaries / pensions of the present ministers/MLA’s or Ex-MLA’s can be made in a single order in minutes through collectives decision without any debate or discussion. But when it comes to Govt. present or ex-employees, the question of paucity of funds gets automatically raised. Helplessness surfaces, No unanimity is found or formed. Ours state is reeling under the pressure of power-crisis, unemployment, financial crunch, owing to slump in agriculture, industry, tourism industry and energy shortage. To add to the woe, lackadaisical approach in handling the sensitive issue of central university Andolan is gaining moment with every passing day and it is feared. That it may not erupt unlike. Last year’s SASB land row is hardly seeking anyone’s attention. It’s before this volcano also erupts causing havoc demands due care with meticulous handling. Remember all those issues which are related to society’s growth and development must be given priority for early redressals. Our leades must not forget that their tall statures are built by the public acceptance. If public distances, they get cornered goes into oblivion for ever. Whatever and wherever they derail from the common interests of public affects their moral integrity and commitment towards their own duties. Hence, they must shirk of their responsibility and waste precious time on trivial matters that barely solve the problems of public or lessons their sufferings to minimum level. Let we wish together that good sense may prevail upon these gentlemen to help them to apply genuine mind to worthy aspects for encouraging results benefited for Indian state and society.
