| PM calls Mufti in Delhi for meeting | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 30: Unruffled by Central Bureau of Investigation and Union Home Ministry’s clean chit, as Peoples Democratic Party prepares for yet another offensive against the Chief Minister and an unknown number of political leaders, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is reported to have invited former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for a discussion in New Delhi. Prime Minister Singh’s invitation for an ‘urgent’ meeting with the Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed comes in the wake of latter’s party vowing to go a step further when the Legislative Assembly resumed business on August 7. It may be mentioned here that following unprecedented uproar and pandemonium the Business Advisory Committee headed by the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone suspended the only available working day in near future and put all Assembly business off till August 7. On Wednesday, a day after former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig dragged the Chief Minister in Srinagar sleaze row, the Peoples Democratic Party legislators including their leader Mehbooba Mufti had claimed in Legislative Assembly that they are in possession of a ‘file which carries details of involvement of many legislators and other political bigwigs’. Sources said that the PDP is preparing to unveil the so called file when the House assembles next. Amidst these unsavoury developments, the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has asked the PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for a meeting in New Delhi. Party sources said Mufti will be leaving for New Delhi on August 2 and may have the meeting with Prime Minister the same evening. The Prime Minister and the Congress President Sonia Gandhi, sources told Early Times, have taken a very poor view of recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir and want both the Peoples Democratic Party and the National Conference to desist from mudslinging, particularly by utilizing the institution of Legislative Assembly. In this backdrop, sources said, the Prime Minister is expected to discuss with Mufti the latest situation and urge him to allow smooth functioning of the coalition government.
