| Vohra violated constitution, CM has no authority to be in office: Chaman | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 31: Endorsing the stand of Peoples Democratic Party, as far as constitutional process is concerned, the veteran political and leader of BJP Legislature Party Prof Chaman Lal Gupta today said that the Governor NN Vohra has violated the Constitution by not accepting resignation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The Peoples Democratic Party has already accused the Raj Bhawan of taking “directive from New Delhi in exonerating the Chief Minister from charges leveled against him the Legislative Assembly”. Mehbooba Mufti today questioned the Governor Vohra in Srinagar on how could he arrived at conclusion in just 48 hours on an issue which the CBI could not probe in four years. Terming Governor NN Vohra’s decision allowing Omar Abdullah to continue as Chief Minister as violation of State Constitution, the Bhartiya Janata Party veteran on Friday said that Omar has no authority to continue in office. “As per the Constitution of the State the Governor should have accepted the resignation of the Chief Minister and asked him to continue till an alternative arrangement was made for formation of a new government,” BJP legislature party leader, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta told reporters in Jammu today. “The Governor acted under directions from the Central government and pressure from senior Congress leaders,” Gupta alleged. Omar Abdullah resigned on July 28 after PDP MLA, and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh alleged that his name figured in the list of those people who were involved in the sex scam. "Once a Chief Minister resigns, he relinquishes his power of the government," Gupta, said. The Governor has violated the constitutional provision by allowing Omar to continue with the same government though his resignation was of the entire government, Gupta added. However, sources said that initially the Governor had accepted the conditional resignation of Abdullah and after two days gave him a clean chit absolving his involvement in the alleged sex scandal of 2006.
