| SC Commission chief Buta Singh’s son held taking Rs One Cr bribe | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 31: In an embarrassment for UPA Government, the Central Bureau of Investigation sleuths today arrested son of Buta Singh, the Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes while accepting Rs One Crore bribe to settle down a case his father was probing. Sarabjot alias Sweety Singh was formally placed under arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged involvement in a corruption case in New Delhi on Thursday when he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.One crore and taken to Mumbai later in the evening. According to CBI, the corruption case involves a complaint filed by Ramraj Patil, a Nashik-based civic works contractor. Patil had alleged in his complaint that Sweety Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs.3 crore, which was later brought down to Rs.1 crore, for withdrawal of a case under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, filed against Patil by a group of local conservancy workers employed by him. Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde demanded the Centre should sack the Chairman of National Commission for SC/ST, Buta Singh accusing him of indulging in "open corruption" after his son was arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe to close a case being probed by his father. "Buta Singh has given a notice to take action against Patil and has accepted bribe to compromise the case. It is a case of open corruption and we demand that Mr Buta Singh should be removed from his post," Munde told reporters here. "The government in not looking into the Dalit and tribal problems and there is much corruption in all the schemes meant for these communities," Munde alleged. The contractor, who had allegedly taken a loan of around Rs 10 crore from a co-operative society on behalf of over 100 people from the Dalit community, is facing a case under the SC/ST Act and it was being probed by the commission.
