| CT sleuths foil Rs 1.2 Cr tax evasion attempt | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 1- The sleuths of special investigation unit (SIU) of the Commercial Taxes Department have thwarted an attempt of tax evasion by importing goods Diamond studded gold jewellery clandestinely into the state last night. The SIU team recovered the consignment of goods from the possession of one Rajesh Dhalla resident of Karol Bagh New Delhi at Jain Bazar. The goods were concealed in two leather hand bags and had been imported into the state without any legal declaration as envisaged under the law of the state. The goods were seized under certain sections of Jammu and Kashmir VAT Act 2005. Prima facie the goods seized valued at Rs. 1.20 crore. However, the exact value of the consignment is being ascertained. The team headed by Riaz Ahmed Sheikh, Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes (Adm) included Pawan Parihar Deputy Commissioner (Recovery), Anil Salgotra, Commercial Tax Officer, Surinder Gupta and Sunil Angral inspectors and Ganesh Sharma.
