| Amendments in AFSPA will be disastrous for militancy hit J&K: Khajuria | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 2- Coming down heavily on the proposal put forth by the Union Minister indicating some amendments in the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) BJP State President Ashok Khajuria today said that the Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram has miserably failed to access the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Union Home Minister is reported to have said that proposal is on anvil to amend the AFSPA in consultation with the Government and it would be extended to all few areas. Khajuria said that the Union Minister has yielded before the pressure of PDP and NC which is not in the interest of the state. He said before taking any decision they should take notice of intelligence inputs and also give due weightage to Chief of Army Staff’s stand who has categorically rejected this type of move saying that it will not be in the interest of state and forces who are fighting with the terrorism. The BJP Chief further said Jammu and Kashmir Police is not having sufficient sources and training to meet out the challenge of militancy and militant related activities. Even their number is very low hence it will prove futile if such a decision is taken because it ends the immunity provided to the armed forces and false cases cannot be registered against them. In case any body want to take action for the act done in a good faith, permission from the Central government is required. By abolishing or limiting its implementation in few areas will be a futile exercise and such type of experiment should not be done at the cost of lives of the innocents. Militancy is proxy war sponsored by Pakistan and other countries rather strong action and laws are required to deal with existing war like situation, especially when China is also trying to interfere into boundaries of India on one or the other pretext, he pointed out. Khajuria said that the matter will be taken up with the BJP Central leadership in order to apprise them of the ongoing move of the state and central governments.
