Addressing a function here today, Mr. Mir said people of the state voted in large numbers for the fulfilment of their day-to-day needs pertaining to health, education, infrastructure etc. and all political parties are duty bound for redressal of the same. He said both ruling and opposition parties have to work in unison to achieve this goal.
Mr. Mir said the state has been blessed with a young leadership in the shape of Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah whom he described as honest and sincere. He said he found a mature politician in him whenever he met him and decided to support the coalition for the larger good of the state. He also thanked Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and leaders like Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prof. Saif ud Din Soz for incorporating the aspirations of all regions and political groups while stitching the ruling coalition.
Mr. Mir said that he wishes the state develops ahead like other societies. He said he has a vision of an economically self reliant Jammu Kashmir which is capable enough to generate its resources and march ahead on the road to prosperity. He said the state is blessed with abundant natural resources which, he said, have to be optimally harnessed. He said he envisions a path for the sate which leads it to speedy development and prosperity.
On his assuming charge as Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Mir said it would be his endeavour to give the department a turnaround and make it a profit generating sector. He said he would ensure that the farming community gets due return of its labour and produce.
The Minister warned people against elements resorting to politics of sentiments which, he said, has pushed the state backwards. He said these elements are escaping the realities of practical life and creating more problems for people than solving them.
Mr. Mir asked youth to gear themselves and brace up for the challenges of present times with resolve to carve out a niche in the present world. “I hope youth of J&K become world class citizens he said and asked them to look towards the world for the sea of opportunities it offers.
