| Shri Amarnath Yatra promotes communal harmony, brotherhood: Mian Altaf | | Yatris hail Kashmiris for their friendly co-operation | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 02 – Minister for Forest and Environment, Mian Altaf has said that collective efforts made by the State government and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has helped in providing hassle free facilities and services to the yatris. He said the yatra which has a historical back ground provides employment opportunity to thousands of people of the state and also promotes communal harmony and brotherhood as it cements the relations between people of different faiths and religions. During his visit to Baltal today, Mian Altaf said that the government employees associated with the annual Shri Amarnath yatra performed well in the successful conduct of the yatra concluding on August 5, 2009 and coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. The Minister was informed that so far more than 3.64 lakh yatris had darshan of the holy Shiv Lingam. Of these, 2.87 lakh performed their yatra through Baltal route. About 1.50 lakh yatris have been provided medical facilities while 2000 labourers, 2000 dandies and 4000 ponies are available at the base camp, Baltal. Besides, 2500 quintals of fire wood was distributed among the yatris, free of cost. As many as 1000 water connections have also been established by the PHE department at the base camp, the Minister was informed. On the occasion, the yatris who interacted with the Minister expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by various departments for successful conduct of yatra. They also hailed the introduction of helicopter service from Baltal for convenience of the yatris. During the tour, Mian Altaf said that macadamization of 4 km long road from Ranga to Baltal would be taken up with the concerned soon.
