| Tourist spots of Poonch being explored: Jora | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 3: The Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Nawng Rigzin Jora has said that focused attention is being paid to explore the tourism potential of hidden tourist spots of the State. He said in this regard a vigorous survey campaign have been initiated by tourism department to identify tourism potential spots across the state for their development. He said that historical tourist spots of Poonch district are also being fully explored by expending Rs 20.00 crore under Poonch Tourism Development Authority (PTDA) being funded under Prime Ministers Reconstruction Plan (PMRP) on the identification and development of tourism spots in Poonch district, adding that tourist spots along the way side of Mughal Road like Noori Chamb, Peer-ki-Gali, Chetta Panni would be developed on priority. This was stated by the Minister while chairing PTDA board members meeting held here today. Minister of State for Tourism Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Surankote, Choudhary Muhammad Aslam, MLA Mendhar Rafeeq Hussain Khan,MLC Mr.Jehangir Mir, Secretary Tourism and Culture, Mrs Tanveer Jahan, Additional Secretary Tourism Mr.Altaf Hussain, Chief Executive Officer, Poonch Development Authority, Mr. A. H. Banday, besides other senior officers attended the meeting. The meeting discussed the current years action plan being carried out for construction of tourism related infrastructure in the district besides also reviewed the work done report of last financial year of the Authority. The meeting decided that construction work of three Tourist Arrival Centre’s at Ziarat Sain Miran Sahib, Poonch,two yatri Niwas at Buddha Amarnath, Mandi and Gurduwara Nangali, Poonch would be taken up at a cost of Rs 3 crore during current financial year after a nod received from Government of India (GOI), for the purpose the state government have already submitted draft project reports. The meeting decided that conservation and restoration work of historical Poonch Qilla would be also taken up and in this regard a separate project report would be submitted to Union Ministry of Tourism for funding. The minister instructed the concerned authorities for formulating the project reports for construction of two cafeterias at Bember-ki-Gali and Behram Gala on way to Mughal road for visiting tourists. The minister said that construction of big road projects to connect tourist spots like Nandansar, Valley of seven lakes would be taken up with R&B Department. However he said that construction of link roads up 2 Kmts towards the tourist destination of the area would be executed by PTDA. While reviewing the progress registered under PDA since its inception the meeting was informed that execution of 5 projects have been taken up at a cost of Rs 7.11 crore in the district. Rs 4.11 crore stand expended on the execution of these projects up to July this year. The construction work of Tourist Reception Centres Poonch, Surankote and Mendhar are in progress at a cost of Rs 6.21 crore while as creation of way side amenities at Takia Sharief Bandichachian has been completed at a cost of 48.54 lakh besides Rs 40.55 lakh stand incurred in restoration work of Poonch Fort in I-phase.
The Minister instructed for formulation of project report for conservation and restoration of historical Poonch fort for early submission to Union Tourisim Ministry for funding. He also directed for preparation of project reports for creation of tourism related infrastructure at scenic spot of Peer-ki-Gali, Dera-ki-Gali, and Chacan-da- Bagh, for facilitating the visiting tourists in these areas.
Legislators of the area briefed the Minister about the tourism potential of various spots of the district and urged that these areas would also be brought under the banner of PDA for their proper development.
The Minister assured them that proper survey would be made of these areas for exploring their tourism potential and added that he will personally assess the tourism potential of these areas and initiatives would be taken for their development.
