| Workshop on PNDT Act organized | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 04 One day workshop on Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act-1994 (PC&PNDT) was organized by District Family Welfare and Health Society, Udhampur in the premises of Shivalik College of Education, Udhampur here yesterday. Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur, Mr. R.K. Sharma formally inaugurated the workshop. The expert of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994, Dr. Sabu George from Delhi delivered a detailed lecture on the subject based on case studies, figures and examples leading to serious socio-cultural problems and population imbalance in the country. Assistant Director, Health and Family Welfare Department, Jammu also spoke on the occasion and highlighted various reasons attributed to lesser number of girls in the age group of 0-6 like the practice of female feticide. Highlighting various provisions of the PC&PNDT Act, the Chief Medical Officer stressed the need for regulating the use of pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques so that there are not misused for sex selection. He called for mass awareness among the common masses in understanding the importance of balance child sex ratio besides effective implementation of the act. Deputy Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Udhampur, Dr. Arun Sharma presented vote of thanks. Among others, District Immunization Officer, Dr. Santosh Sharma, Secretary, Red Cross Society, Dr. V. P. Sharma, interns of ANMT School, Udhampur, NSS volunteers, Principal and college staff of the host college were present.
