Jora unveils incentives for tourism traders

Srinagar, Aug 4: The Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora has said that the government has launched some innovative schemes for promoting tourism infrastructure in the state. He said under these schemes, the tourism trade related persons are entitled for incentives ranging from Rs. 2 lacs to Rs. 30 lacs for construction and upgradation of hotels, guest rooms and purchase of adventure sports equipments. He called upon the concerned traders to avail these incentives and become stakeholders for promotion of tourism industry in the state.

This was stated by the Minister, while chairing a meeting with representatives of Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owner Federation here today.

The Minister of State for Tourism, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, Secretary Tourism and Culture, Ms. Tanveer Jahan, Director Tourism Kashsmir, besides vice-president Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Federation, Mr. Fayaz Ahmad Bakshi and General Secretary of the Federation, Mr. Manzoor Ahmad also attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed various issues pertaining to promotion of tourism in Kashmir valley. The representatives of the federation demanded that hoteliers should also be given all such benefits and incentives which are available to small scale industrial units holders of the state for promotion of industries.

The Minister assured them that their genuine demands would be looked into and instructed Secretary Tourism to initiate the proposals in this regard.

Mr. Jora said that the government has given priority to upgradation of tourism infrastructure owning to the fact that tourism was the backbone of state’s economy. He said at present crores of rupees are being incurred for building necessary tourism infrastructure of international standard at various tourist destinations of the state.

The Minister called for massive private sector participation in tourism industry adding that this was imperative to cope with the heavy tourism influx in the state. “Kashmir having the varied tourism attractions coupled with situation coming to normalcy, a heavy tourism rush is expected in coming days”, Mr Jora added.

The Minister stressed upon the hoteliers to provide quality services of boarding, lodging and catering to the tourists up to their satisfaction and as per their taste and likings. He directed Director Tourism to issue questioner for receiving feedback reports from the visiting tourist at well known tourist resorts and at international airport Srinagar adding this would help in improving the services being provided by various tourism trade related associations to the tourist.
