| Sheep and Animal husbandry firm to be rejuvenated in J&K | | | Early Times Report Srinagar Aug 4 The Sheep and Animal husbandry firm, Jammu and Kashmir has called on the state government to set up a livestock development company under the public-private partnership to reduce dependency on imported livestock and rejuvenate the sector in the state. "The company would have subsidiary companies like bio-pharma company, livestock services company, research and development company, sheep products company, herbal products company, leather products company, J&K milk producers Federation and buffalo meat products company," V K Khoda, former scientist with the National Dairy Development Board said. Mr Khoda, who is also a consultant to the dairy industry displayed a presentation on private-public partnership in developing livestocks and allied sectors at a meeting chaired by the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Minister Aga Roohullah here. He proposed to set-up a livestock development company, with the government and farmers having stakes in it. Several top functionaries of the two departments including J L Mattoo, R L Khar, Tasleem Shamas, senior faculty member from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology, discussed different issues relating to the concept propounded by Khoda. "The State can ill afford flight of Rs 1,400 crore worth of capital from the state that goes in the import of mutton, poultry, eggs, feed and other products," Roohullah said.
