| Jawan killed in mortar gun blast | | |

An army jawan was killed when a shell-round exploded inside the barrel of the gun during firing practice in Akhnoor, about 30 kms from here, defence officials said.
Defence officials added that Sepoy Randhi Singh was critically injured while loading the mortar gun with shell in firing range in Badochi area in Palanwala belt of Jammu district last evening, they said adding that it suddenly exploded due to some fault in the gun.
He was critically injured and later sent to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, they said, adding that his body has been sent to his native place in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
He was part of the 10 Sikh Li unit, who had come from Dalhousie for training here.
