EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, AUG 5: The Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, celebrated Raksha Bandhan with the children from the SOS Children’s Villages, who called on him at Raj Bhavan, here today. Twenty girls from the SOS Children’s Villages from Srinagar and Jammu, accompanied by six mothers from these villages, greeted the Governor on Raksha Bandhan and tied Rakhis on his wrist. The Governor, while interacting with the children, observed that the festival of Raksha Bandhan is a unique and distinctive feature of India’s glorious cultural ethos, which symbolizes the special bonds between brothers and sisters. The Governor expressed the hope that this festival would further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, amity and harmony and would be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the State. The Director, SOS Children’s Village, Srinagar, Mr. Naushad Raza and the Director, SOS Children’s Village, Jammu, Mr. Sanjeev Bhat, briefed the Governor about the Villages and the facilities being provided to the inmates. The Governor appreciated the initiative of these Villages and called upon the people, particularly affluent sections of the society and philanthropists, to come forward in a big way to reach out and help the children in need. The Governor sanctioned a financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 to SOS Children’s Village from out of his Discretionary Grant and presented gifts and sweets to the children. He also wished them a happy Raksha Bandhan and a bright future.
