| Mir advises farmers to take double cropping | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 5: Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir today said the Government is strengthening the Crop Insurance scheme so that the farmers are protected from any losses to crops due to natural calamities. Interacting with members of farming community during his tour of the villages of Tangmarg area today, Mr. Mir advised them to adopt double crop system to get more yield from the land under cultivation. Mr. Mir asked the farmers to take agriculture practices more seriously and supplement efforts to ensure self sufficiency in foodgrain production in the state. He said he would ensure to make agriculture a profitable sector throwing open job opportunities for the youth of the state. He said he would be asking the scientists of SKUAST and experts of Agriculture department to visit and guide farmers in growing more yield. Appealing people to encourage work culture, the Minister asked them co operate with the administration in this regard. He asked youth to take full benefit of welfare schemes like NREGA instead of craving for petty job engagements. He said the Government is aware of the problems of youth and is exploring possibilities for creating job avenues for them. Mr. Mir said the objective of visiting these areas is to get an on the spot assessment of their problems and see how best those can be mitigated. During his tour, the Minister visited Devbugh, Katibugh, Nangarpura, Narpora, Krishhama, Yall, Sonum and other villages. People at many places brought into his notice problems relating to drinking water, road connectivity and healthcare facilities. The Minister assured them that adequate action on their demands would be taken at the earliest.
