Minister vows to revamp public enterprises

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 05- Emphasizing the need to revamp and improve the functioning of Public Enterprises, Minister for Education and Public Enterprises, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed said that slew of measures are on anvil to streamline the functioning and performance of the Public Enterprises in the state to make them viable.
Peerzada said this while reviewing the functioning of the 19 Public Enterprises at a high level meeting of Managing Directors of these Public Enterprises here today.
The Minister said that immediately remedial measures will be put in position to infuse blood in the sick units and asked the profitable enterprises to expedite their efforts for generating more revenue for the State. Peerzada stressed on the Managing Directors to monitor the performance of their enterprises on regular basis. He said vigorous efforts have to be made to overcome the bottlenecks and make the enterprises viable. He asked the concerned to assess the performance of the corporation and provides the feedback for making the corporations viable within next two months, the Minister added. Peerzada directed the Managing Directors to enroute all the mattes regarding administration, management and working through Public Enterprises Department and Board of Directors. He also emphasized that profitable units will help in generating employment and can play an important role in the socio-economic development of the state. The Minister said that for the appraisal of performance of public enterprises, formulation of policy guidelines pertaining to public sector enterprises in areas like performance improvement and evaluation, financial management, trainings and industrial relations, the Bureau of Public Enterprises was set up.
The meeting was informed that presently 19 public sector enterprises are existing in the state, out of which J&K Cements, J&K SICOP, J&K TDC, J&K Cable Car Corporation, Police Housing Corporation, J&K PCC and J&K Power Development Corporation are functioning profitably while the rest have turned into sick units.
Among others Director Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Mohammad Aslam Lahiguru was also present in the meeting.
