| Water supply in Jammu to improve soon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, AUGUST 5 – To assess the working of the newly commissioned Intake third of Sitlee Filtration Plant the Minister for PHE, Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din today visited site of Filtration Plant and. took on-the-spot inspection of its various activities. The Minister said that government is concerned about the problem of potable water supply to interior Jammu city and Roopnagar areas, adding that with the commissioning of the Plant the water scarcity problem has been overcome to a large extent. He said that after the construction of new Intake III and 5.4 MGD filtration plant, the trial run of the plant was done within a record time of less than a month which reflects the seriousness with which the government is working to provide the basic amenities to all its population. At the site, Mr. Taj inspected all the intake units I, II and III and checked flow meter on-the-spot to ensure that sufficient amount of water is being supplied to the people. He inspected the sedimentation tank, flocullators and directed the concerned engineers to monitor the quality and purity of drinking water being supplied through the Plant regularly especially in the monsoon months when the extent of silt and mud flow in water is maximum. Chief Engineer, Mr. V. K. Abrol and other senior engineer were present. The Minister also visited R.S. Pura to ascertain that the canal water reaches upto the tail end. MLA, Suchetgarh, Mr. Sham Chowdhary and MLA, R. S. Pura, Prof. Gharu Ram Bhagat also accompanied the Minister.
