EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 5: The 25- day long high altitude trekking expedition of 3/1 Gorkha Rifles which was flagged off from Drass by Brigadier IS Ghuman, Commander Drass Garrison will cover a distance of 310 Kms from Drass in Jammu and Kashmir to Darcha in Himachal Pradesh. The trekking team would traverse through the rugged terrain of Zanskar ranges and would be self contained through out the expedition which will terminate on August 20.
The trekking has been planned as a part of the Tenth Anniversary of Operation Vijay which was held on July 26 and the Golden Jubilee Celebrations on 3/1 GORKHA RIFLES, which will take place on December 21, 2009. The aim of the trek is to foster the spirit of adventure, interacting with ex-servicemen in the far flung areas, explore heritage sites and learn about the culture and traditions of Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. It would also endeavour to spread awareness amongst the local population on environmental issues.
