| Jammu’s ‘Group of Ministers’ reiterate sincerity with region, CUAS stays away from meeting | | CENTRAL UNIVERSITY | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 5: Despite no concrete assurance from the Government of India on creation of another institute of higher learning, a Group of Ministers, which was part of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s that met the Prime Minister and other central leaders, today asserted that Jammu will gets its “due share”. The Group of Ministers –including Industries Minister Surjeet Singh Slathia, Technical Education Minister Rajinder Singh Chib, Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla, Health Minister Sham Lal and CM’s Advisor Devinder Singh Rana –today had a meeting with the students leaders and other prominent citizens of Jammu. The Central University Andolan Samiti, however, stayed away from the meeting. Interestingly, the Minister laid emphasis on “rejecting divisive forces, maintaining communal amity”, but could not make the picture clear on whether there are going to be two Central Universities or the one already sanctioned is to be divided into campuses. The Ministers apprised the meeting that the State Government has taken up with Government of India that there should be two Central Universities in J&K and they assured the citizens that two universities will be opened in the State, one in Jammu and the other in Kashmir. They further added that Government is committed to equitable development of all the three regions of the State and shall not allow the divisive forces to succeed and therefore will live up to the expectations of the people of all the regions of the State. The Ministers said they had also invited the Central University Andolan Samiti members in the meeting but regretted that the Samiti members have not participated in the meeting as they were shying away to face the reality as they have a political motive to create division which the Ministers said will not be allowed. The Ministers advised such divisive forces to stay away from drawing political mileage and not to play with the career of the students. The Student representatives said that they are fully satisfied with transparent and genuine efforts of the State and the Central Governments for considering the demand of the people of J&K favourably. They said they will fight for the cause of students in peaceful manner and will not allow the divisive forces to succeed in their ill designs to create regional/communal tensions. Prominent among the student representatives who participated in the meeting were Mohinder Pal Singh, Varinder Singh Chib, Ram Ji Sharma, Nishant Verma and Abhishek Koushal. The Students representatives said that they have been fighting for the cause for the last 34 days and no one from civil society has came forward to support their cause. However when the Government came out clearly on the issue, some political forces are trying to hijack the issue and subvert the students’ cause for their political gains. Earlier, the Group of Ministers also visited the recently established Jammu Office of Central University at Gandhinagar to inspect its functioning. They also issued instructions to the authorities to fully furnish the office and erect hoardings at conspicuous places for the awareness of general public. The Officer on Special Duty, Central University, M C Verma apprised the Ministers that application forms for the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff have been issued to the applicants intending to apply against 20 vacancies advertised, so far.
