| Mubarak Mandi conservation | | Charak to seek Rs 2 cr. Sanction from cabinet | |
JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 28 - Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak today constituted three committees to deal separately with the various facets of preservation process of Mubarak Mandi complex. These short-term committee, would submit their detailed proposal to the Inventory Report and Record Committee, the apex body on October 6. Mr. Charak said that Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr. Pramod Jain would head the 4-member Inventory Report and Record Committee with Directors of Archives, Estates and Tourism Department as its members. He said that the Inventory Committee would collect and procure all the items and valuables including rare paintings and articles that are either presently in the occupation of the Estates Department, under lock and barrel in various rooms of the historic complex and also lying at open. The committee shall also collect these precious possessions so that these are preserved effectively. While, the Development Proposal Expert Committee, the Minister said would be headed be Principal Secretary Higher Education Mr. Ashok Angurana, who has also been nominated as a permanent member of the apex Mubarak Mandi Preservation Committee. The Development Proposal Expert Committee shall invariably submit proposals for holistic development and preservation of various complexes in the Mubarak Mandi after holding consultations with experts, prominent citizens and people associated with Mubarak Mandi. The Committee comprises of MLA Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Mr. Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Director Tourism Jammu Mr. Ajay Khajuria, Director Archives and Maj-General (Retd) Mr. G.S. Jamwal as its members. On the specifics of the Structure Categorization Committee, Mr. Charak said that the committee would prepare list of various complexes in the Mubarak Mandi detailing the type of treatment required for its conservation. He said that the constitution of the committee has been necessitated in wake of opinion from the experts that the few structures housed in the historic complex require immediate repairs and also identify structures which requires minor repairs for its complete restoration. The Structure Categorization Committee would be headed by Chief Engineer R&B Mr. M.M. Sharma and shall have eminent experts and engineers as its members. The R&B Minister also directed Director Tourism and Director Archives to hold consultations with various agencies and firms especially the INTACH and others that have extensively conducted research on the historic complex and submitted various proposals for its conservation in right earnest. The two members too shall mandatorily submit the approved work plan after holding negotiations with these research organizations on October 6 to the apex body. Mr. Charak said that an immediate proposal of Rs 2 crore shall also be placed before the cabinet for obtaining its sanction to commence and seek funds for checking soil slip on circular road that has potential of damaging the historic complex in erosion goes on unabated. Among others, Principal Secretary Higher Education Mr. Ashok Angurana, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Mr. Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Director Tourism Mr. Ajay Khajuria, Director Archives, Chief Engineer R&B Mr. M.M. Sharma, Superintendent Engineer R&B Mr. Sayed Mujtaba, eminent journalist and former MP Mr. D.C. Parshant, renowned scholar Mr. N.D. Jamwal, Assistant Director Archives Mr. Peerzada Mohammad Ashraf and Project Director Mubarak Mandi Dr Sudhanshu Sharma attended the apex body meeting. |
