| Centre sanctions Rs.5.32 Cr for sports development in J&K | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 6: Minister for youth Services and Sports Mr R,S. Chib today said that government is determined to channelize energy of youth in building prosperous nation and opening up of new sports institutions, fully equipped with necessary sports infrastructure is one step such step in that direction.
Mr. Chib was interacting with several groups of youth, who called on him here on Wednesday. He said with the launch of Panchayat Yuva Krida Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) by the central government, an amount of Rs. 5. 32 crore have been sanctioned, out of which Rs.2.66 crore have been released for encouraging mass participation in sports and enhance performance of youth on village, block and district level in various sports activities.
He said Rs.48 lakh have also been released as state share for the purpose adding, till date 14 blocks of the state have been already covered under the scheme and 28 blocks would be covered in coming years.
Giving details of PYKKA, Mr. Chib said that PYKKA would provide youth to an opportunity to play 20 games, including like weightlifting, boxing, wrestling, judo, archery, swimming, badminton, hockey, football basket ball, cycling, gymnastics, athletics, taekwondo, wushu,kabaddi and kho-kho for their fitness development, team spirit and developing leadership qualities and education with confidence.
Earlier, referring to recent high level meeting of State Sports Ministers with Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. M.S.Gill, Mr. Chib said that the J&K State needs sound support of Central government in order to achieve the goal, cherished by youth of the state for many years.
Lauding central government for setting up of Nehru Yuva Kendra’s in each district, Mr Chib said that a demand of opening of similar Kendra’s in newly created districts was also put forth before the Union Ministry during the meeting.. He said that Dr. Gill assured fulfilling all the genuine demands of the state in order to improve sports infrastructure by extending all possible facilities for the youth of the State
