Early Times Report
JAMMU, AUGUST 06 -Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand has said that Centre government has given a favourable response to the proposal mooted by the state government for establishing two Central Universities one each in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the coalition government is committed for equitable development of all the three regions of the state.

While interacting with the former ministers and deputations who called on him this morning, the Deputy Chief Minister assured balanced growth in each sector irrespective of regional considerations.

Minister of State for Cooperatives, Printing, Stationery and Elections Dr. Manhohar Lal Sharma besides former legislators Ch. Gharu Ram, Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, Dr. Romesh Sharma and Thakur Balwan were present on the occasion.

To deal with rising of water level in the river Chenab, the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand asked the Flood Control (FC) authorities to be prepared and take all necessary precautionary measures to avoid any loss to the life and property of the people. He said that there would be no excuse of short of resources in carrying out the construction of works on filling of crates as this needs to be erected on priority. He asked the officers to declare emergency along the river and set up control rooms with officials from Police, Revenue and Flood Control to ensure flow of timely information regarding the flood trends to the higher authorities.

The Deputy Chief Minister asked the Flood Control authorities to start the works for strengthening of crates along the river Chenab in Akhnoor tehsil and Niki Tawi in Marh block, especially in those areas where the water is hitting the villagers’ fields. In order to ensure that irrigation water reaches to the tail-end in Khour, Marh and Suchetgarh blocks, he asked the I&FC authorities to release irrigation water in a phased manner so that the farmers do not face any inconvenience during Kharief season.

Mr. Tara Chand asked the I&FC to de-silt the water distributaries adding that due to gathering of silt in these distributaries most of the irrigation channels are facing acute water shortage thereby affecting the Kharief production in the areas of Suchetgarh and Khour blocks. He said that government was making tireless efforts to provide irrigation water up to the tail-enders by making optimal utilization of available resources like canals, springs, dug wells etc.

Regarding construction of multi-tier parking and sanitation in Bus stand, Mr. Tara Chand informed the deputation led by former Minister Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, that the proposal is under consideration and soon the work on parking slot would be started for the benefit of masses. He asked the JMC to depute the team of safaikaramcharies for regular sanitation in bus stand area. He said that efforts are afoot to tap the ever increasing pilgrim and tourists inflow by developing Jammu as a major tourists destination with state of art facilities catering to the modern day tourists.

Responding to the demands put forth by former Minister Dr. Romesh Sharma from Nowshera, regarding increase of Municipal Committee funds, timely ration supply to Sunderbani town and compensation to those families whose houses are damaged due to cross border shelling.
