| Academy organizes interaction with POK Writer | | | early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 7- The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today organized special interaction program with Mohammad Noor-ullah Qureshi, founder of Pahari movement, who has come from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir on a month long visit to India. Qureshi delivered a lecture on “Pahari Movement viz-a-viz state of Jammu and Kashmir”. The function was presided over by Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, prominent Pahari writer and Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy. A galaxy of prominent citizens of Srinagar city and a number of intellectuals from different ethno-linguistic groups of valley were also present on the occasion. In his special lecture Quershi said that the Pahari community is emerging as a vibrant identity on both sides of Jammu and Kashmir State. He said although the partition of the state has divided our cultural heritage into two parts but even after a gap of sixty years the Paharis of both side of LoC are feeling that they must unite for the sake of their identity and culture. Manhas, in his presidential address, said that this is only because of the efforts of Noor-ullah Qureshi of Karnah who later migrated to other side of the border that the Pahari movement took a great start in early seventies. He said the present leaders of Pahari movement must take a cue from Qureshi who selflessly devoted his whole life for the cause of Pahari identity. On this occasion Qureshi was honoured with an award, citation and a shawl. The felicitation program and lecture was followed by a cultural program in which five leading groups of valley performed and recited various folk and Pahari songs.
