Fix time schedule for setting up CU in Jammu, JSM to Govt
8/7/2009 9:59:18 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 7- The Jammu State Morcha (Progressive) has opined the way the Chief Minister and his entire cabinet is pleading the cause of two Central Universities in Jammu and Kashmir should be an eye opener for the entire population of Jammu region. If the CM and his government are concerned about equitable development of all regions then what stopped them from asking the PM for opening of another IIM or an Indian Institute of Technology in lieu of the proposed IIM in Kashmir region, the Morcha said.
Addressing media persons here today the Morcha leader Capt. Anil Gour said that the way the state government is bending backwards to ensure that another Central University is sanctioned for Kashmir, without even talking about another IIM or IIT for Jammu, region speaks volumes of their concern for Jammu. Throughout the meeting held on August 5 by the GoM there was no mention of these institutions even though the questions were asked in this regards, he remarked.
To remove misgivings on this vital issue, the Morcha has demanded that the Government should fix the time schedule for setting up CU at Samba, start admissions in the presently identified disciplines, winding up CU office in Kashmir and taking up the case for granting an IIT and IIM for Jammu. The Morcha has also asked the State Government to vigorously pursue opening of Indian Institute of Information Technology in Jammu, which stands sanctioned by Government of India in its budget of 2008 under the 11th Five Year Plan, besides taking up with the Central Government the mater regarding opening of a Tribal University in Poonch – Doda or Khistwar which was promised to the people of Jammu by the former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
He said if the Government is sincere to end the decades’ long discrimination with Jammu it should up- gradate the existing Government College of Engineering & Technology in Jammu city to NIT, grant Government Medical College Jammu the status of autonomous Institute of Medical Sciences at part with AIIMS and implement Singhal Committee report on admissions to professional institutions.
H.B. Khajuria, Swarn Sharma, Virender Magotra, Devinder Jamwal, Chandra Uday Sharma and Surinder Sharma were also present at the press conference.
