| Hi-Tech fruit mandi to come up at Narwal | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 07 –The government would develop fruit mandies of Parimpora, Srinagar and Narwal Jammu as two hi-tech mandies under Flagship Horticulture Technology Mission Programme. The Sopore fruit mandi would also be developed on the same pattern. These steps would enable the fruit growers and traders of the state to compete in the global market. This was stated by the Minister for Horticulture, Sham Lal Sharma in reply to a question of Irfan Shah in Legislative Assembly today. The Minister said that the control of fruit mandi Parimpora has been transferred to Horticulture Planning and Marketing department from Srinagar Development Authority recently. Replying to another question by Basharat Bukhari regarding establishment of walnut processing unit in Sangrama constituency, the Minister said that there was a vast scope for further development of Horticulture sector in the state adding that the business turnover in the sector was of the order of Rs 1700 crore from fresh fruits and Rs 300 crore from dry fruit business last year. He informed the House that the Horticulture Technology Mission Programme has a provision of 50 percent subsidy from setting up of fruit processing units up to Rs 4 crore while as Rs 1 crore subsidy could be availed for augmentation and upgradation of old fruit processing units. He asked the members to help in encouraging public private partnership for development of fruit processing infrastructure in Horticulture sector under the Technology Mission Programme.
