Non-Govt Congress supports agitation
8/7/2009 11:43:48 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 7: The state unit of Congress, particularly comprising the Jammu based leaders, seems to have split into two unique halves –the “Government Congress” and the “Non-Government Congress”.
Four Congress Ministers –Tara Chand, Rajinder Singh Chib, Raman Bhalla and Sham Lal Sharma –are making desperate efforts to convince the people of Jammu on Central University issue and urge them to desist from any agitational mode. At the same time three Congress leaders and former Ministers –Gulchain Singh Charak, Suman Lata Bhagat and Yogesh Sawhney –are not only casting aspersions on the government’s intentions but also vigorously campaigning for the agitation on Central University issue.
For the Non-Government Congress in Jammu, there is apparently a common ground with BJP, almost on the lines of shared interests during Amarnath land row. Three senior leaders have extended support to the agitators who are preparing the agitation in future if Central University (CU) is not established in Jammu.
Bhartiya Janata Party was the first political party to support the agitation and now it is worth to watch Congress and BJP agitating first time together for the cause of Jammu. During the last few days, the issue has cropped up for chaos and confusion among the masses in Jammu region. The normal life of the citizen particularly the students have been disturbed.
“Government of India sanctioned fifteen Central Universities and six IIM throughout the country. One Central University and one IIM have been sanctioned for the state of J &K. When this proposal became public there was no demand in Kashmir for the establishment of the Central University in the Kashmir Valley because of the prevailing security scenario there, disclosed senior congress leader Gulchain Singh Charak to media persons.
“There have been many delegations from Jammu of cross section of people including intellectuals, citizens and students who approached me several times and even I led some of these delegations to the Central Government for establishment of Central University in Jammu region. Even, PM during his special convocation address in the University of Jammu made a declaration for the establishment of Central University in the Jammu region. Moreover, the matter was discussed with the then Chief Minister G. N. Azad who was also of the same view”, headed.
Noticeably, Minister for Revenue and Relief Raman Bhalla and Minister of State for Education Higher R.S Chib on the other side favored two university theory adopted by the government of the day to cool down the atmosphere in Jammu region besides not provide a chance to opposition to drag it for another anti Kashmir issue. But the billion dollar question arises is those who are enjoying the power in the cabinet are pleading two university theory and those who had lost in recent Assembly elections are parroting only CU that too in Jammu at Samba. Is it sincerely measure by Congress towards the people of Jammu or it the other face of politics called “Game Plan”. Common man fails to understand that a bunch of Congress leaders are demanding two varsities and the other bunch of same party in same region demands establishing of CU sanctioned in Jammu desperately. It depicts either there is vertical divide in Jammu Congress or there political motivation beneath the drama. It is the time which will decide in which way wind will blow.
Meanwhile, criticizing the statement made by some ministers regarding the opening of two campuses of Central University is mere an eye wash as the central University campus has only to be opened in Jammu so there is no question of establishing two campuses, said Charak “We are in favour of establishing one university in Jammu. It is therefore, desired that the IIM be established in Kashmir region while Central University be established in Jammu region, for which the land has been identified in Samba district. To meet the aspiration of people and the students, I would request the Govt. to take immediate necessary action to start the process of establishing the Central University in Jammu at the already identified land in Samba District” Charak cleared. He also said that if the central University is not going to be made in Jammu then we will support the movement launched in favour of Central University. Suman Bhagat and Yogesh Sawhney other Congress leaders were of the same opinion.
