| Monday shutdown intact, says CUAS | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 8: Even as the Divisional Administration and Police led by Divisional Commissioner Pawan Kotwal and IGP Ashok Gupta made strenuous efforts to convince the Central University Anodal Samiti for desisting from agitation, the Jammu shutdown scheduled for August 10 stands as agitators have set a condition for written notification on establishment of Central University at Samba. Latest developments evolved in a meeting headed by the Sunil Sethi, President J&K Bar, Jammu with the state administration representatives including divisional commissioner Pawan Kotwal, IGP Ashok Gupta, SSP Manahor Singh, DIG Farooq Khan and District Development Commissioner Manoj Kumar Diwidi remained inconclusive as CUAS has put its three main demands: allotment of land for Central University in Samba in written notification, shifting of Vice Chancellor office to Jammu permanently and Closure of CU office in Kashmir. Sources said that the panel selected by the government has assured them (CUAS) that they will put their demands before the Cabinet and urged upon them to not take any steps for agitation. But they have rejected their suggestion and stated that agitation will continue till all of their demands are not accepted in letter and sprit. Secretary Suresh Ajay Mangotra said that CUAS does not have faith in the verbal statement given by these leaders and the state administration. CUAS members who were present on the occasion included Ved Raj Wazir, Sr. Advocate Bar Association, Jammu, Kanwar Narayan Singh Jamwal, Member Core Committee CUAS, Pushvinder Singh Manhas, Co-Convener of Students, Preeti Choudhary, College Student Leader, Rajinder Motial, General Secretary, Chambers of Commerce and Yash Pal Gupta, President Retailers Federation. Meanwhile, CUAS has condemned the alleged action of SHO Akhnoor who is reported to have beaten the students and has harassed one Sachin, who was agitating peacefully for the Central University. Administration was warned to stop the coercive tactics to harass the peaceful democratic agitators among the students.
