| Dalai Lama arrives in Leh to rousing welcome | | | Early Times Report Leh (JK), Aug 9 The spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, the Dalai Lama today arrived here to a rousing welcome, with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself driving the spiritual leader in an official vehicle from the airport to his palace here. After receiving the spiritual leader at Bakula Airport here, Abdullah drove the Dalai Lama from the airport to his summer palace at Choglamsar. Large crowds of locals, including Budhists, Muslims and Hindus enthusiastically gave a rousing welcome to the Dalai Lama enroute to the palace. Soon after reaching his palace, the Dalai Lama, who is on a nearly 20-day tour of Ladakh, extended his thanks to the chief minister. In a conversation with the Chief Minister, Dalai Lama said he had a very friendly relationship with his grandfather and founder of National Conference Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and his father Farooq Abdullah.
