JAMMU Aug 9: While the Power Development Department (PDD) is tightening the noose on defaulters, various wings of the department itself have not paid electricity tariff amounting to Rs 3.38 crore.
According to official records, PDD besides other government departments falls in the list of defaulters as seven wings of PDD owe Rs 3.38 crore as power tariff to the department. Besides, Rs 660.69 crore is recoverable tariff lying with various government departments or government customers while Rs 972.52 crore is recoverable tariff from the private customers. PDD officials said the department is making all possible effort to recover the pending dues from the consumers. “Most of the government consumers are unable to clear the arrears due to non-availability of funds. He said in part of recovery process of power tariffs, PDD has recovered Rs 1.98 crore as fine from affluent and influential people for stealing power in Jammu. “The thieves include top officials of investigating agencies, Commissioner Secretaries, business leaders and many others from the privileged class,” he said. Chief Engineer PDD Jammu Ajay Gupta said defaulter PDD wings do not have the required budget available for clearing the tariff, result of which PDD is forced to suffer in recovering the outstanding amounts. Commissioner Secretary PDD B. R Sharma when asked about the recovery of pending amount said that from the government departments all out standings are being recovered and there is nothing like to worry about the recoveries from such departments. He said it is a continuous process certain amount has been recovered by PDD and hopefully remain amount will also be recovered in time.
