| MILITANTS MADE ABORTIVE BID TO ATTACK GURSAI POLICE STATION IN MENDHAR | | | Jammu, July 17, : A 31 year old selection grade constable Yasin was killed in the wee hours of Monday following militant attack on the sentry post located outside Gursai police station in Mendhar in Poonch district.
According to reports reaching here, a group of militants made a futile attempt to storm the Gursai police station in the wee hours of Monday morning around 3.00 a.m and killed one police constable during gun fight.
The fire was retaliated by the police force and managed to engage militants for over one hour before they escaped from the spot under the cover of darkness.
One of the eyewitnesses, Nazir , a police constable posted in Gursai police station told Kashmir Independent Press that militants had also lobbed five grenades targeting police station but no one was hurt in the attack.He said he was sleeping when he first heard a gun fire.
I jumped out of the bed and took position without wasting any time, he said.
At the time of the attack jawans of CRPF, and special operations group team were also present in the police station and engaged militants for over about one hour.
SSP Poonch SDS Jamwal said that the militants had attacked the sentry post located outside the Gursai polcie station at the time of change of duty around 3.00 a.m.He said, alert jawans lost no time in repulsing the attack forcing the militants to flee from the area.
Meanwhile, man hunt has been launched in the area to track down the militants,he added.
