| CU issue again dominates LA proceedings, walkouts witnessed | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 10 : The Central University (CU) issue continued to dominate the proceedings in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly which also witnessed walkouts by National Panthers Party (NPP), Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nizamuddin Bhat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who also tore business book of the House. As the House assembled today after two day holiday, the BJP and NPP members were on their toes, demanding immediate statement by the government on the Central University issue. Despite directions by the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone to resume seats, the agitated members continued slogan shouting in the House. ''Give CU to Jammu'', they were shouting and demanding that they should be allowed to speak on the issue which has rocked Jammu where a general strike was being observed today. However, Mr Lone disallowed them to speak and reminded them that it was agreed at an all party meeting that question hour will not be disturbed. ''I have received adjournment motion from Haresh Dev Singh of NPP on CU issue at 0950 hrs today, Mr Lone said adding ''since it should have come to my office a hour before as per norms. He also said he will announce his decision on the motion tomorrow. However, this did not satisfy the agitated members who kept shouting and alleged that the people of Jammu were always being discriminated. As the Speaker took up the first question of the day, the NPP and BJP members walked out of the House. However, they returned when the first question was being debated. Immediately after the question hour, the speaker allowed Haresh Dev Singh to speak on the CU. Mr Singh said the government had identified the 6,000 kanals of land for the CU at Samba in Jammu region. However, he said, after a office of the CU was opened at Hyderpora in Srinagar, it created apprehension in Jammu.
