| Centre to launch new scheme for forest management | | | Agencies Dehradun, Aug 10 : Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh said here today that the central government will be launching a new scheme for modernisation of forest management for prevention of encroachment and promotion of the green cover across the country. Speaking at 38th Annual Convocation of Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy here, he underlined the importance of regeneration of natural resources. He said that a balance has to be struck between the development and environment. ''We are working on a new scheme to equip forest administrators with the latest communication instrument, and other equipment to protect and preserve forests from intrusions, violations or encroachments,'' he said. He said that biodiversity also needs to be protected. The government has added an ecological perspective to forests management apart from economic and social perspectives. Referring to ongoing international debate on emissions, Mr Ramesh said that India will never allow its per capita emissions to exceed that of the developed countries. He said India seeks credit not just for stopping deforestation but for promoting reforestation.
