| Artists enthrall audience | | | UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 28 - Navratra festival being organized by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Department of Tourism, J&K Government is in full swing in Katra. One can witness celebrations including cultural, religious, social and educational activities at every nook and corner of the holy Katra town. A huge rush of devotees and locals could be seen at these venues. On the fifth day of ongoing Navratra festival, artists of Song and Drama Division, GOI have kept the audience spell bound for over three hours at Government Higher Secondary School Katra premises with the varied and superb performance based on folk dances of different states of the country. The Minister for Rural Development Mr Jugal Kishore Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. Assistant Director of Song and Drama Division (GOI) Mrs Manoj Bansal, Mr M. L Dogra, President Hotel Association Katra, Mr Sham Lal Kesar, Additional SPO Katra Mr M L Mehra and prominent citizens Mr Shankar Dass Dogra and Mr Ved Pujari were also present on the occasion. Krishan Rass Leela entitled “Basant Rass” a folk presentation of Manipur presented by the artists of Imphal left a long lasting impact on the gathering gathered in large number to witness the programme. Body movements coupled with meticulous expressions of the artists were highly liked by the spectators. Likewise Himachal folk dance ‘Natti’ Dogri “Chann” ‘Chaumasa’ of Garhwal Martial Art of Manipur , Bhasamsur Vadh presented by the artists of Jammu and Nainital also got loud applause of the audience. Bhaint presentation in praise of Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji sung by renowned singer of the state, Mr Vijay Mallah and party received wide appreciation. In the most popular event “All India Bhaint Competition” of Navratra festival at Katra, Mr Surinder Hans of R. S Pura Jammu, Mr Bunty Balgotra of Samba and Mr Sachin of Jammu secured first, second and third position on the 5th day of the contest. President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Mr Shiv Kumar Sharma, Chairman of All India Bhaint competition Mr Rakesh Wazir, members of celebration committee, Mr Sardari Lal Dubey, Mr Harish Dubey, Mr Kewal Padha, Mr Rajinder Kotwal and Mr R. S Manhas were also present on the occasion. In an interesting fancy dress competition of little kids attired in attractive costumes of different Hindu deities, Kumari Palak Mengi, Miss Neha Sharma and Kumar Shalini were adjudged as first, second and third. Earlier, a colourful process comprising of number of Jhakies started from Asia Chowk Katra where Minister for Rural Development Mr Jugal Kishore Sharma lit of sacred jyoti and accompanied the procession. |
