JAMMU, Aug 10: Sulakhani Kour clinched the junior girls’ singles title outplaying Akanksha in straight sets in the ongoing 24th Jammu District Badminton Championships at Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here today.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, Sulakhani defeated Deepankshi in straight equal sets 21-16, 21-16 while Akanksha trounced Prabhjot 21-18, 21-12.
The sub-junior girls singles title went to Manisha, who downed Prabhjot Kour in a well contested final that lasted for complete three sets 2-1 (18-21, 21-17, 22-20). The sub-junior boys’ title went to D S Shubham, who beat Ayush Raina 21-14, 21-18 in the final today.
In the junior boys’ singles event, Aman and D S Shubham have made it into the final. In the semi-finals, played today, Aman defeated Abhjit 24-22, 19-21, 21-13 and Shubham defeated Ayush Raina in straight sets 21-15, 21-18.
Semi-finals line-up has been drawn in women’s singles event with Deksha, Prabhjot, Akanksha and Sulakhani entering into the last four stages. In the quarter-finals, played today, Deksha bt Yashica 21-11, 21-18, Prabhjot bt Keerat 21-14, 21-16; Akanksha bt Harleen 21-10, 21-13; Sulakhnai bt Deepakshi 21-12, 21-14.
Meanwhile, according to organizing secretary of the championships, Som Raj Gupta, the women’s and men’s singles as also men’s doubles finals shall take place tomorrow followed by the prize distribution function at 5 pm.
The detailed results (Finals): Under-10 boys doubles: D S Shivam and Akhil bt Nalin and Tushar 21-19, 21-16. Under-10 boys singles: D S Shivam bt Nalin 21-12, 21-15. Under-10 girls singles: Naman bt Tamanpreet 21-13, 21-10. Mini girls doubles: Mega and Bhawna bt Himanshi and Akansha; Mini girls singles: Bhawana bt Mega 21-19, 21-18. Mini boys doubles: D S Shivam and Akhil bt Irfan and Sareen 21-14, 21-15.
