Peerzada reviews district-wise progress of education department

Jammu, September 28- Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed here today convened a high level meeting of officers of education department to review district-wise progress registered under various programmes during the current financial year.
Minister of State for School Education Mr. Manjit Singh, Secretary Education Mr. Khazir Mohammad Wani, Director School Education Jammu Mr. D. K. Vaid, Director Academics Mr. Syed Bashir Ahmad, Project Director Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mr. S. S. Sambyal, Chief Education Officers of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Udhampur,. Kathua and Jammu were also present in the meeting.
Mr. Peerzada took detailed review of achievements made under various programmes like mid-day meal, submission of utilization certificates, functioning of education guarantee centres set up under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, repair and renovation of school buildings and teachers’ training action plan.
The Minister directed the chief education officers to strictly monitor the functioning of schools in their respective districts and asked the teachers fraternity to provide quality education to the students so that they become more responsible citizens of the country.
Mr. Peerzada asked director school education to interact with the executing agencies and ensure that they complete the ongoing development works within the stipulated time frame. He said that the coalition government is making concerted efforts to upgrade educational infrastructure and provide basic facilities in educational institutions including drinking water, electricity, playgrounds, toilets.
Minister of State for Education Mr. Manjit Singh also spoke on the occasion and said that providing of quality education among the students is priority of the government and several steps with far-reaching results have been initiated to achieve this goal. He said teacher fraternity in educational institutions had to play an important role to achieve cent percent literacy to enable the state to match with the rest of the country in terms of quality of education imparted in the schools.
Deliberating upon the measures aimed at to bring further transparency in the selection process of students in various educational institutions particularly in leading institutions of the Jammu province.
Secretary Education Mr. Khazir Mohammad Wani said that at present there are 8328 government schools in Jammu division that include 5414 primary schools, 2183 middle schools, 506 high schools and 229 higher secondary schools besides 2101 private schools. He said that 3861 education guarantee centres are functioning under SSA in the remote habitations. He said that the enrolment figure in all the schools from Ist to 12th standard is 11.94 lakh out of which government schools contribute 6.92 lakh students, private schools 3.73 lakh and education guarantee centres 1.29 lakh students.
Director School Education Mr. D. K. Vaid also apprised the Minister about the facilities provided to students in schools which include computer education, mid-day meal being provided to 4.89 lakh students studying in primary classes in all the 11857 government institutions including EGS centres. He said that a project for construction of 199 new primary school buildings and 781 additional classrooms in primary schools at an estimated cost of over Rs. 18.80 crore was approved against which about Rs. 11.61 crore have been placed at the disposal of PWD and RDD.
