| Adequate number of trucks being made available for transporting fruit: Hakeem | | | SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 28 - The Government has initiated measures of immediate nature to keep trucks available in adequate number for transportation of fresh fruit out side the state so that growers do not face any difficulty. This was stated by the Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen while chairing a high level meeting here today. The meeting also deliberated upon steps to be taken for providing better transport facilities to the people within Srinagar city and inter district roads. . The Minister directed the concerned to ensure availability of adequate number of trucks for the transportation of fresh fruit to the markets out side the state in time. He also instructed for initiating measures to install meters in Autos to check overcharging by the drivers. He also called for registering of those Auto’s which are still unregistered. Stressing for checking over loading in passenger vehicle and timely departure of these services, Hakeem Yaseen said that State Road Transport Cooperation would make staff available for monitoring of traffic regulations. He said the traffic on the interior road network of Srinagar city would be further improved to minimize traffic rush adding that there is need for better management of parking lots and other places where from vehicles operate for different destinations. The Meeting was told that the traffic police, during last 6 months recovered Rs. 96 lakhs as fine from persons violating traffic rules in the Srinagar city alone. It was decided that a sustained campaign would be launched to make people as well as transporters aware about the traffic rules. Commissioner Secretary Transport Mr. Devender Nargotra, Managing Director SRTC Mr. Sanjeeve Verma and senior functionaries of the transport department were also present in the meeting. |
