| J&K History to be part of academic curriculum | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 11 : History of Jammu and Kashmir is being incorporated in Social Science (SS) subject at school level in the state, while there is no proposal with the government to introduce moral and ethical education as compulsory subject in schools, official sources said here today. The history of the state is being incorporated in all the classes, chapter-wise, in the text books of history, the sources said. They said the School Education Department has already initiated review and revision of school curriculum in the light of National Curriculum Frame-Work 2005. They said the guidelines, which lay stress on local specific curriculum and free education, has been taken up by the state and is at its final stage. The sources said that there is no proposal before the government for introducing moral and ethical education. However, there has been constant effort to work out an appropriate intervention on moral and ethical value education, they said. The sources said that it has been made obligatory on the part of the government and private schools to impart context specific moral and ethical education to the children consistent with their age, local ethos and culture. They said that as a measure of pedagogical support, modules has been developed by experts in State Institute of Education which address host of themes, including truth, empathy, respect of dissent, parents rights, gallantry, scientific temper, brotherhood and fraternity, respect for elders, gender justice, sharing resources, equality, cooperation, good company, patience, cleanliness, integrity, unity and discipline. They said a project 'Exploring Humanitarian Law' has been launched in the state in collaboration with International Committee for Red Cross (ICRC) and started on pilot basis in a number of Higher Secondary Schools to impart education on humanitarian values.
