CUAS says act fast as Govt ‘ignores’ Jammu shutdown

Jammu, Aug 11: As the Government chose not to react on Monday’s shutdown in the Jammu on the issue of establishment of Central University, the conglomerate of various City based organisations spearheading the movement today asked the ruling dispensation to act fast on the issue.
Talking to media persons here today, Sunil Sethi, member of Central University Andolan Samiti and president Bar Association Jammu condemned the government silence and alleged that it intentionally tried to shift Central University to Kashmir. “In Kashmir when same issue is raised by some people, Government has been acting immediately and settle the things but there in Jammu students are on roads from last more than 15 days, the government is showing no serious concern to settle the things”, he mentioned and questioning ‘whether they are waiting for more chaos and destruction here in Jammu or they were waiting for voices to be raised for Central University from Kashmir’.
Sethi said the ‘Government should act fast and establish Central University in Jammu in full fledged manner before the situation goes out of control’.
Sethi said that it was clarified by former Higher and Technical Education Minister Gulchain Singh Charak that Central University was proposed for Jammu and IIM for Kashmir by the central government during their regime and not a single voice has been raised from Kashmir for Central University.
Earlier, CUAS Convenor Paviter Singh said that CUAS will let its movement and anger against state government till CU is established in Jammu in full fledged manner.
Stressing for awareness over the issue of Central University in Jammu, Singh said that CUAS will launched an awareness program for 15 days from tomorrow in Jammu province to make aware the people about Central University and movement initiated by CUAS for it besides distributiing pamphlets among people of Jammu.
Singh informed that on Independence Day will be celebrated as ‘Sankalp Divas’ at different places by the Samiti and later a big program will be organized in Jammu city.
The Core Committee Members will visit up to Tehsil Headquarters of Jammu Province to strengthen the CUAS from 16th August to 20th of August and student groups will visit all the Universities, colleges, Higher Secondary schools of Jammu province from August 16 to 21 to garner support for establishment of CU in Jammu.
A massive protest (Maha Dharna) will be organized by the end August after the discussion with various Jammu based social, political, Trade, Transport, Industries and religious organizations, Singh informed further.
When asked will the Government use curbs and not allow them to organize separate function, he said ‘every citizen have fundamental right to take National Flag and hoist it on Independence Day at their own, state government have no right to restrain anybody to hoist National Flag’, he maintained.
In the meantime protest demonstrations were held at Doda where Hindus and Muslims jointly took out a procession and burnt the effigy of State Government. In Kisthwar also a protest demonstration was held demanding setting up of CU in Jammu region. In Rajouri Bar Association, students of Degree College and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University besides Rajouri Bazar Association took out a procession. The processionists led by Hassan Mirza and Vivod Gupta later burnt the effigy of the Government. Similar protest demonstrations were also held at Poonch district
