| Students from Kashmir to study Persian in Iran | | | Early times Report Srinagar, Aug 12 A 12-member team of Kashmir University (KU) students today left for Tehran, Iran, to attend a six-week course in modern spoken Persian. Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Riaz Punjabi accompanied with Head of the Persian Department, Professor Mohammad Munawar Masoodi sent off the group of students, an official spokesman of the university said here today. He said three groups of KU Persian language and literature students are in Iran to study in different universities as part of the MOU signed between Iranian government through its embassy in Delhi and Kashmir University. The degree colleges of the valley affiliated to KU, where Persian language and literature is taught have also been included in the programme. He said Prof Punjabi has also expressed his desire that higher secondary institutions of the valley be also included in the programme. Speaking to students, Prof Punjabi expressed happiness over this programme and said KU is opening up new windows for student exchange programmes in near future. The Iranian Cultural Centre in New Delhi also recently donated 1,000 Persian books to the university's library to improve its Persian Department.
