| ICELA demands publication of state environment report | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 12: Publication of “State environment Report J&K 2009” has been demanded by the Indian Council for Enviro Legal Acation (ICELA), J&K Chapter by its convener Ashok Sharma in a press statement issued here today. The purpose of the said report Sharma Said is to aim to provide information to the people at large living in this tourist and hilly state about the state of environment and its impact on food, water energy resources due to rising pollution. He said melting of glaciers, unprecedented rains, climatic changes, denudation of forest and alarming increase of deadly diseases are the major concerns of ecology in J&K. To address the said issues, the formulation of “State Forest Policy” for J&K is of imperative necessity added Sharma. The state environment report India-2009 released by the Union Forest and Environment Minister Jai Ram Romesh Yesterday is an eye opener. It indicates the serious ecogical-concerns while making public that 90 percent Indian cities can suffer with respiratory diseases due to air pollution, 70% Indian rivers are polluted, nineteen states are faced with condemnation of underground water. The situation in Jammu and Srinagar townships need early steps to save the urban population from the respiratory ailments due to increase of RSPM at alarming rate, emphasized the state convenor.
