| World Tourism day observed at Pahalgam | | | SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 28 –As a part of World Tourism Day celebrations, an impressive function was held yesterday at Pahalgam, the globally renowned tourist resort. The function organized by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag Mr. Jai Pal Singh. Among others the Deputy General Manager, Jammu and Kashmir Tourist Development Corporation Mr. Mehraj-ud-Din was also present. On this occasion, a 20-day long Billiards training programme was introduced for local youth. Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Deputy Commissioner highlighted the significance of the day and emphasized need for boosting tourism and preservation of natural resources which play an important role in maintaining the natural beauty and ecological balance. A number of forest trees were planted on the occasion. The Tourism Department also organized a symposium in connection with the celebration of the day in which students from different schools participated and spoke on the subject. The best speakers were awarded prizes. A vigorous drive for collection and disposal of polythene bags was also launched. |
