| Roti to be sold by weight instead of numbers: Taj takes decision in a meeting | | | Srinagar, September 28– Taking cognizance of the complaints from the public Govt. today fixed new rates for bread (Roti, Lawasa, Chuchwaro), being made and sold by the Non-Waies in the valley. The decision to this effect was taken in an officers meeting which was attended by the Representatives of Non-Waies and chaired by Minster for Consumer Affaires and Public Distribution Mr. Taj Mohi-u-din here today. It was decided in the meeting that henceforth the Bread (Roti, Chuchwaro, Lawas) would be sold by the Non-Waies by weight instead of numbers and Rs. 34 has been fixed per kg weight of these three kinds of Kashmiri bread. The Non-Waies will ensure to keep weighing scales in their shops for selling the roti to the consumers. It was further decided that all whole sale dealers of maida would provide atta to the Non-Waies by weighing their bags first in their shops. Rs 1200 per quintal has been fixed the rate of maida being supplied to the Non-Waies. Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department has asked to notified the rates by October 1, according to essential commodities act. The Weights and Measures Wing of the department will ensure that kandas and scales are kept in each Non-Waies shop. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the decision was taken keeping in view the interests of the public about the less weight of bread being made by the Non-Waies. The Minister instructed the officers to keep strict vigil and report the complaints against the shopkeepers indulging in under weight of roti and profiteering. |
