| Forest Department- Army join hands to conserve nature | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 13- Continuing the ongoing plantation drive under the 60th Van Mahotsav program, massive plantation drive was launched at Village Aitham where students of Government school Aitham, army jawans and officers from Forest Department planted saplings along with the locals. On this occasion a cultural program was also organized by the school children, which was followed by lively interaction between the department officials, army and local people. Conservator of Forests, East Circle, Arun Kumar Tikku was the chief guest. Dr V S Senthil Kumar, DFO ETF/ Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, DFO Jammu, Colonel Kumar and Major Devinder Singh from army were among others who present on the occasion. The plantation drive was carried out on area damaged due to forest fires in the previous month and also in degraded areas. During the day long program about two hundred people participated. Speaking on the occasion the Conservator of Forests stressed upon greater cooperation between the forest department and army wing for eco-restoration and preservation of the ecology. The function was organized by the Eco-Task Force headed by DFO ETF from Forest department and a Colonel from the army side to coordinate all activities of plantation and providing manpower. The DFO ETF highlighted the achievements of the Army-Forest coordination in bringing a larger area under the plantation cover this fiscal. Colonel Kumar and DFO Jammu addressed the gathering and dwelt in detail about the importance of the ongoing eco-restoration drive and course of action to be followed. It was decided that more areas in Jammu division will be taken up by ETF for plantation in this season. Later, a prize distribution ceremony was held where students of the schools were felicitated for various achievements in competitions related to environment and also cultural program Colonel Kumar presented formal vote of thanks. The next major plantation drive has been fixed for bringing the Divisional Revenue Complex in Gole Gujral under green cover through plantation by Eco-Task Force and collaboration with Forest and Revenue departments. Eco-Clubs, established in various Government schools, under the National Green Core program will be activated on a regular basis this month.
